RECENTLY FEATURED IN NASHVILLE VOYAGER
"For whatever reason, I seem to vibe with guys and first-timers to therapy. Maybe I take more of a straight-forward approach to something that is anything but straight-forward."
I recently sat down with Nashville Voyager Magazine to discuss my path to becoming a therapist, my approach to mental health, and why I believe in meeting clients exactly where they are—no judgment.
In the interview, I talk about my background working everywhere from homeless services to kidney transplant clinics, and how those experiences shaped my focus on the connection between physical and mental health.

What clients have said:
“I've been a client of Chris for 5 years. I've moved four times in that period and couldn't imagine finding another therapist. Spring Hill is lucky to have him.
I was recommended to him and now I've recommended him to everyone I know who is looking for a therapist. People who are struggling like me with anxiety and depression. But also to those dealing with all types of other issues. There is no one better than him. My life and the lives of those around me are better for having had Chris in my life.” Adam S (10/22/2019) on Yelp
“I've been Chris's client for about three years now, and after moving away a couple of times - I can honestly say I haven't found a therapist quite like him anywhere else. His expertise and knowledge have helped me through most difficult times, and I would and have recommended him to my friends and loved ones! If you're looking for a therapist in the Nashville area - I would highly recommend him!!” Dee N (10/2019) on Yelp
“I would highly recommend Chris M. Johnston, LCSW, if you are seeking a therapist who is professional, compassionate, empathetic, down-to-earth, and optimistic. For me, finding the right therapist is a very personal and important decision. Chris Johnston was the right fit for me from the start of the initial telephone conversation. Over the course of a month with weekly appointments, he was able to help me with a challenging relationship issue giving me insight, tools and a map to help me learn how to cope with my issue. He helped me to understand key things about myself and within a few weeks of sessions with him I found that I understood the root cause of my issue and saw immediate changes in the way I was coping with this issue. I attribute this to feeling safe and comfortable with Chris being able to open up and explore my emotions and causes of my frustration, depression and anxiety with a relationship that brought me to seek counseling. His sessions are very affordable which is helpful as counseling can be very expensive. If you are looking for (as Chris explains his method, “no frills counseling”), I would say you could not go wrong seeking his expert professional help.” Kathy O (1/2020) on Google Reviews
“Chris is great! I was in a really dark place, and being able to talk to someone who is trained in a professional, confidential & welcoming environment was amazing. His office is really nice too; coffee, water, tea, nice waiting room, & nice furniture. I wish I would have gone to see him earlier. He took Blue Cross Blue Shield, but also without insurance his pricing is super reasonable too. If you need help, he did a great job for me.” Rick S (3/2020) on Yelp
